“Never need to remember, because we never forget.” From 1982 to 1992, a decade of pioneering
efforts in the department of management engineering built a firm basis for the school; from 1992 to
2007, the 15 years of development brought the school new brilliance. Looking back to the 25-year
history, we will never forget our pioneers and their contributions to the school. The professors,such
as Ye Chunsheng, Zeng Wenzhong, Li Yijing, Luo Rong, Guan Qixue, Lang Baoshan, Wang Jianqin,
Chen Xun, Jiang Lanbiao, Liao Mingxun, Huang Haichao, Zhu Huiqiang, Fan Zhongzhi, Zhou Yuxin,
Lin Jingjun and Xu Tongbang are among the prestigious founders. Now, we are happy to see that
the flame has been passed from the old professors to the young and middle-aged faculty members
who are making more contributions to the school instruction and research work to keep the school
booming and graduates outstanding.
Milestones
1981 A teaching and research section in enterprise management was founded, and a department
of management engineering (DME) was in preparation.
1982 DME was founded, providing specialized training programs for government officials (junior
college degree).
1983 DME kicked off the bachelor degree program in management engineering.
1984 DME was authorized to run the master degree program in management science and
engineering and began the enrollment.
1986 The instruction and research section in industrial economy, under the department of social
science, began to recruit master degree candidates in industrial economy.
1992 SBA was founded on the bases of DME and the instruction and research section for
industrial economy, the department of social science.
1993 SBA kicked off its MBA programs as one of the second group of authorized schools in China
and began the enrollment.
1997 Shantou Alumni Building donated by alumni in Shantou was opened.
1998 SBA was authorized to run doctoral degree programs in the state Level I Discipline of
management science and engineering.
2000 The instruction and research section in accounting, under the department of mathematics,
was incorporated into SBA as the department of accounting, SBA.
2002 SBA kicked off its EMBA programs as the first group of authorized schools in China.
2002 SBA was authorized to launch its ME programs in industrial engineering.
2002 SBA was authorized to run its doctoral degree programs in the state Level II Discipline of
enterprise management.
2002 SBA completed the renovation project of the No.12 building (previously a building of law
school) allocated by SCUT.
2002 SBA founded SBA Alumni Association and held the First Meeting of Directors.
2004 SBA was authorized to kick off ME programs in project management and logistics.
2004 Senior Executive Training Center, SBA was established on the basis of its existing training
center.
2004 SBA discipline of management science and engineering was rated as a provincial key
discipline by the Department of Education, Guangdong Province.
2005 SBA was chosen as a state-level Innovation Research Base for New Form of Industrialization
as part of the Philosophy and Social Science Innovation Platform incorporated in Initiative
985 launched by the Ministry of Education.
2007 The renovation projects of the No.22 building allocated by SCUT and the existing Shantou
Alumni Building were completed and opened.
2007 SBA discipline of enterprise management was rated as a provincial key discipline by the
Department of Education, Guangdong Province.
